Investors in People North of England and Nissan put North East Employers in the driving seat
It was fantastic to network with so many North East employers at yesterday’s event delivered by Investors in People North of England and supported by local employers Nissan and Gateshead College.
Over 42 delegates attended from a mix of business sectors came to hear from Japanese car giant Nissan, about their commitment to use the IIP business improvement framework to support their journey to success over the last 21 years and help them to achieve their position as one of the UK’s largest private sector employers and exporters.
Head of Investors in People Paul Devoy opened the event describing how the Investors in People framework can support small businesses and their people to realise their full potential and ambitions for growth in the region.
Paul Campbell and Paul Gough from Gateshead College provided an insight into their work with Nissan to support people development and their own journey working with the Investors in People framework (where they achieved Gold status).
They went on to describe how they have used the framework to ensure they are agile and adaptable in today’s ever changing environment.
Claire Jones Senior Controller for Training at Nissan-Sunderland Plant then took us on a journey through Nissan’s history in the North East –taking us from the Nissan Bluebird to the fabulous Qashqai ! Highlighting the ups and downs of their journey she spoke with passion and pride for the region and the people within it. Claire described how Nissan have embraced the ethos of Investors in People to get them where they are today.
The day wasn’t just about listening though! Delegates also got the opportunity to have their say about growth in the region, with 56% of delegates stating that their organisations were expecting to increase employee numbers in the next 12 months and 44% voted for a face to face meeting as a preferred method of being able to seek out solutions for their business needs.
Investors in People North of England Operations Director Chris Jones closed by encouraging organisations to realise their business growth potential through opportunities to join an innovative growth support programme.
To everyone who contributed to this event and all those who attended it was great to meet you and we look forward to working with you in the future.
